A Program implemented in every ESN section of the world. It consists of assigning Mentors to students coming from a foreign university in another country (in particular at the Warsaw School of Economics). The task of the Mentors is to look after the foreign student before and during their exchange.
The main task is to introduce Erasmus students to the student life at our university (including providing information about subjects, faculty, student organizations and university formalities). In addition to formal matters, it is worth familiarizing Erasmus students with the city itself and the entertainment that can be found there or where it is worth going for a weekend for a longer trip around Poland.
At the Warsaw School of Economics, our organization also organizes at least 2 group trips to the largest cities in Poland (most often Krakow and Gdańsk) and organizes integrational meetings and events (i.e. pubs, karaoke, cultural outings, etc.) practically every week. One of the most popular events is Orientation Week, which takes place at SGH during the week before the semester starts. Every day, the Buddy Team organizes various types of entertainment (field games, bowling, walks), and in the evenings, thematic events are held each time in a different club. Find out more here.
Participation in the program does not oblige to 24/7 care – everyone supports each other, so you can always count on someone’s help. The most important thing during the whole period of being a Mentor is to have constant contact with your buddy so that Erasmus students can always count on you. The time you spend together is an amazing experiences, a chance for new friendships, learning your language and really great memories!
Recruitment to the Mentor Program takes place twice a year:
- before the start of the winter semester (July-September)
- around January (at the end of the winter term)
Mentor program – assignment:
Each Erasmus student coming to our university who expresses such a desire is assigned a Polish tutor, called the Mentor / Buddy. People are selected based on data such as languages, hobbies, age or expectations. This allocation will take place before Erasmus arrives in Poland through a special platform.
The tasks of the Mentor will include:
- contact with Erasmus (via e-mail, social media) before his arrival – there are certainly many questions, answers to which will help Erasmus prepare for coming to Poland (from the type of climate to the cost of food),
- help in finding a place to stay, possibly picking up Erasmus from the airport / train station,
- help in accommodation, finding yourself in Polish reality (e.g. buying a monthly ticket, assistance in looking for a flat if Erasmus does not like a dorm, etc.)
- tour of the university
- assistance in formal matters at the university and in servicing the Virtual Dean’s Office
- going out together, having fun, sightseeing, etc.
